About Alice
Alice Tilley is an emerging visual artist who lives and works on a cropping and sheep farm near Kapunda in rural South Australia. Alice’s practice is deeply rooted in the rhythms of her everyday life, drawing inspiration from quiet moments at home, in the garden, and within the surrounding agricultural landscape.
Regardless of the subject being a landscape, still life, or person, Alice’s work is an act of attentive observation - noticing and engaging with everyday moments and places. Both the artistic process and artwork itself are an intention to slow down and escape the constant busyness and distraction of modern life.
Working predominantly in oil and mixed media, Alice creates figurative paintings characterised by expressive brushwork and a dynamic interplay of light, shape, and colour.
After receiving a scholarship, Alice completed a Certificate IV in Visual Art at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2000. In the years that followed, Alice painted intermittently while exploring other creative pursuits and career paths. In 2015, as a stay-at-home mother, Alice rekindled her commitment to painting, marking the beginning of a focused artistic career.
Today, Alice balances her art practice with raising three busy children, tending to a large country garden, and contributing to the ongoing renovation of her family’s 150-year-old stone farmhouse. When time allows, she seeks inspiration beyond the farm, exploring both nearby and distant landscapes.
